2010-2014

SuperKaleidoscope was an Australian artist-initiative started in Berlin by artist/curators Kim Fasher and Sarah Mosca.

The two first crossed paths at the National Art School, later working together to coordinate Ken Unsworth’s site-specific installation and performance event, A Ringing Glass (Rilke), held on Cockatoo Island in 2009 in memory of his late wife, Elisabeth.

In 2010, they kicked off SuperKaleidoscope, a nomadic curatorial project in Berlin, bringing together a mix of artists, creatives, and thinkers. Both Fasher and Mosca were drawn to interdisciplinary approaches, pushing boundaries and finding new ways to present and experience art, breaking away from traditional setups.

From 2010-2014, they put together exhibitions, online projects, publications, and public programs, with collaboration at the heart of everything—both with each other as artist-curators and with a range of other artists, curators, art institutions, ARIs, academics, writers, poets and more.

Their exhibitions mixed the work of emerging, mid-career, and established artists from Australia and overseas, working across the mediums of installation, sound, photography, video, painting and sculpture. They often built long term working relationships with practitioners, working with artists who they loved and who had something interesting to say. The focus was on immersion and the unexpected, reflecting interconnected ideas and layers of storytelling.

SuperKaleidoscope was supported by grants from ArtsNSW, the Australia Council, NAVA and an Artspace residency. They were awarded a Firsdraft Emerging Curator grant and a Linden Centre for Contemporary Art Innovators grant. They were highlighted by Susan Gibb in Art Collector Magazine’s “TASTEMAKERS - 50 Things Collectors Need to Know” story in 2014. They also taught the Honours studio course within the Photography and Situated Media department at UTS in 2014.
